In Memory of Elisabeth Boswell
Elisabeth Boswell

Executive Director Renate Boswell Eschmann, and Kimberleigh Boswell (fourth generation)
hosted customers, family and friends at a 45th anniversary celebration in October 2010.
In Loving Memory of
Elisabeth (Elsbeth) Johanna (Blomberg) Boswell
May 16, 1922 - November 10, 2011
Elisabeth J. Boswell, 89, of Oakton, Virginia joined our Heavenly Father on November 10, 2011.
Born on May 16, 1922, in Bochum, Germany, she was the second daughter of Wilhem and Johanna Blomberg. Tragically, her father died in 1931 leaving her mother to raise their four daughters alone. Ebbe, as her family knew her, chose her career at the tender age of fourteen, studying early childhood development, specializing in infants.
During World War II, she lived in Southern Germany, working for several different families. When the war ended, an American military family hired her as a governess; she emigrated to the United States in 1950 to continue the care of their 2-year-old twins. Elisabeth moved throughout the United States with this family, living in Georgia, Texas, Kansas and Virginia Beach, Virginia, before she came to the nation's capital. She often told the story of falling in love with DC and praying she could stay in this area.
Through mutual friends, she met Charles Arnold Boswell, of Falls Church, shortly after he returned from military duty in Germany. They were married at Saint James Catholic Church on May 25, 1957 . Charles served as a Fairfax County policeman from 1957 to 1977. Charles and Elisabeth, along with his parents, Earl and Nellie Boswell, established Color Wheel in McLean in 1965.
They made Falls Church their home until 1971, when they moved to their dream home in Oakton. Elisabeth was an exceptional homemaker and mother to her two children, Charles and Renate. She and her husband were deeply involved in the parish of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Vienna. She attended mass daily, was a member of the Marion Society, and volunteered her time often.
Her son Charles, his wife Mary, daughter Renate, her husband Mark, and her sisters Ursula Bates of Mobile, Alabama, and Adelheid Stover of Bremen, Germany survive her. She was predeceased in 1997 by her husband, Charles Boswell, and in 2001 by her third sister, Hildegard Stadermann.
Her grandchildren, Kimberleigh, Taylor, and Carson were often in her care during their early years. Their ‘Omi’ cared for them as only a grandmother could—unconditional love and a caring soft touch. Her fourth grandchild, Ethan, was born in 2005 and received all the hugs and kisses he could handle from Omi.
Kimberleigh, Taylor, and Carson carry on the family tradition, working at Color Wheel and honoring the memory of their great grandparents and grandparents.
